Tears in Heaven

Let's be clear...please

Let's be clear...please

Is it just me or does there seem to be an over abundance of mixed messages in “the church” these days. In the last several days I have been hit by several other blogs here and here that seem, at least to me, to be addressing this issue. Then I saw the sign above and I realized that it isn’t just the church that suffers from an inability to say what we mean.

Here is my simple thought. Maybe one reason we can’t say what we mean is that we don’t know what we believe. I don’t necessarily mean theology although I’ve read some very good theology recently, like here. I think the problem is that we don’t know what we believe about Jesus and/or God. Maybe we have never really wrestled with the idea of grace and what it means, how it affects every area of life. Maybe we have never really come to grip with God’s love vs. his righteous judgement.

It just seems to me that there are a lot of people who say, “God is love”, but then live and show nothing but judgement to others. We hear that Jesus came to “seek and save that which was lost”, but we make church about christians and our message of “hope” is in a language that only religious people speak or understand. We say that we are the “body of Christ”, but one denomination or christian acts like a cancerous tumor toward others attacking and ravaging at every opportunity.

The names have been changed, but they don’t protect the innocent. It is still same song different verse with the religious keeping the Kingdom of God out of reach form the hurting, blind, lame and lost. Isn’t it time for His people that are called by His name to start living out the gospel of Hope and Love to a hurt and dying world? Isn’t it time for compassion? Isn’t it time for mercy and love to become our hallmarks?

Isn’t it time we really understand who Jesus was and what he came to do and then start following in His steps …
